Welcome to the Prince George’s County Police Department website. This department is the primary law enforcement agency in the County. Our goals and responsibilities are to protect the lives and property our citizens and residents, and businesses by disrupting disorder and reducing the opportunity for individuals to commit crimes. With the apprehension of persons suspected of committing crimes and the effective investigation of criminal acts, we are key contributors to maintaining a peaceful and orderly community that is consistent with the high quality of life in Prince George’s County. The Department is committed to these goals and committed to working closely with the community to accomplish them.
The Chief of Police – commanding officer of the Department – is appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council. The Chief is responsible for every aspect of the Department’s management that results in an efficient and effective crime-fighting agency. The Police Chief is also responsible for coordinating relations between the Department and the citizens and residents it serves, County agencies, and other local, state and federal agencies.
Under the Office of the Chief are the Assistant Chief Patrol Services, Assistant Chief Support Services, Inspector General, Office of the Legal Advisor, Office of the Comptroller, Office of Communications and a Staff Director. These personnel are responsible for ensuring the efficient use of department resources and for advancing the mission of the Prince George’s County Police Department and the goals and directives of the Chief.
