Prince George's County, MD - Police Department : Crime Solvers

The Prince George’s County Crime Solvers is a non profit organization established in 1979 that is governed by a volunteer board of directors that oversees the program. The board consists of business and community members who raise reward money, attend community functions and promote the program and community partnership with the police. A police officer serves as the liaison between the department and the Board of Directors.

Rewards

The Prince George’s County Crime Solvers program offers cash rewards of up to $1,000 for crimes NOT related to homicides, rapes, first degree sexual assaults and carjackings. Those crimes are eligible for rewards of up to $25,000 under a reward program established by Prince George’s County Chief of Police.

The Chief’s Rewards Program

In 2005, Police Chief Melvin C. High, authorized a reward of up to $25,000 for tips leading to the arrest and indictment in cases of Homicides, Rapes, First Degree Sexual Assaults and Carjackings. Under special circumstances, other crimes may be eligible for increased rewards when authorized by the Chief of Police or his designee.

In addition to the Chief’s Special Rewards, tipsters who provide information about the Most Wanted and Gun Turn-In programs are eligible for $1,000 rewards (per incident).

Prince George’s County Crime Solvers Tip Line

The Prince George’s County Crime Solvers tip line is a toll free telephone number: 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). It is the number used on press releases, advertisements and reward posters. Additionally, the phone number is given to media who are reporting on a crime in which citizens are asked to call police if they have information about the crime.

Tipsters call the toll free number 1-866-411-TIPS and provide information to a call taker. Calls are not traced and Caller ID is not used. Once the information has been provided, the tipster is assigned a code number and the tip is forwarded to the investigative section for follow up investigation.
