Wal-Mart Foundation: State Giving Grants
Summary:
The purpose of this program is to benefit communities served by
Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club retail stores at the state and regional
level to support unmet needs that are not directly addressed by any
of the foundation’s current programs. Applicants are encouraged to
align with the foundation’s areas of focus, which include;
- Education addressing underserved youth ages 12-30:
- Dropout prevention
- Improving access to college
- Job Skills training:
- Counseling
- Support services to help people improve work skills
- Health:
- Improving access to healthcare
- Promoting healthy lifestyles
- Free clinics
- Immunization programs

BJ’s Charitable Foundation (Eastern U.S.)
Summary:
The purpose of this program is to enhance and enrich community
programs that primarily benefit children and families with the goal
of creating a positive, long-lasting impact on the communities
served by BJ’s Wholesale Club stores. The majority of BJ’s
Charitable Foundation giving is focused on organizations that:
- Promote the safety, security, and well-being of children and
families
- Support education and health programs
- Provide community service opportunities
Eligibility:
Nonprofit organizations with valid 501 (c) 3 tax exemption status in
Eastern U.S. states where BJ’s Wholesale Club stores are located.
The State of Maryland is included.
Funding Level:
An unspecified amount is available to fund awards.

GE Healthcare: Americas Charitable Giving
Summary:
The purpose of this program is to support nonprofit organizations
with programs focused on youth education and/or the promotion of
healthy lives, especially in underserved and diverse communities.
Priority is granted to organizations that are directly engaged in
service delivery and provide a model for similar programming within
other communities.
Funding requests may be made in the following program areas:
- Youth Education
- Underserved communities with low graduation rates
- Focus on youth from birth to 18
- Support core competencies
- Arts in education
- Early childhood development programs
- Healthy Lives
- Childhood obesity
- Cardiac care
- Oncology
- Neurology
- Women’s healthcare
- Diabetes
- Other health related issues that address a need for increased
awareness and/or community outreach
- Diversity and Service
- Programs that impact minority populations
- Programs that address local community issues
Funding priority will be granted to organizations that can
demonstrate ongoing sustainability of their program.
Eligibility:
Nonprofit organizations with valid 501 (c) 3 tax exemption status.
Funding Level:
An unspecified total amount of funds is available to support awards
through this program. Applicants may request grants ranging from
$1,000 to $25,000.

Pay it Forward Foundation: Mini-Grants
Summary:
The purpose of this program is to support service-oriented projects
identified by youth as activities they would like to perform to
benefit their schools, neighborhoods, or the greater community.
Projects must have a “pay-it-forward” focus, encouraging those who
benefit from the project to do kind acts for others in return, with
the results growing exponentially.
Eligibility:
Eligible applicants are churches, schools community youth groups,
and other organizations that work with youth. All youth applicants
must have an adult sponsor.
Funding Level:
An unspecified amount of funding is available to support awards of
up to $500.
Application Deadlines:
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Verizon Foundation
Summary:
The purpose of this program is to help people increase their literacy and educational achievement, avoid being an abuser or a victim of domestic violence, and achieve and sustain their health and safety.
Funding priorities include:
- Education
- Literacy
- Domestic violence prevention
- Healthcare and accessibility
- Internet safety
Eligible applicants include:
- Churches
- Schools
- Hospitals or medical research organizations
- Organizations that operate for the benefit or a college or university and are owned or operated by a governmental unit
- Governmental units
- Organizations that receive a substantial part of their support from a governmental unit or the general public
- Organizations that normally receive no more than one-third of their support from gross investment income and unrelated business income
- Organizations operated solely for the benefit of and in conjunction with organizations described above

Tiger Woods Foundation
Program focus areas include education and youth development; Quarterly rolling deadlines; Average grant $2,500 - $25,000.

Target
Provides local store grants. For information on 2008 grant opportunities, log in between February 1, 2008 and October 1, 2008. Focus areas include arts, early childhood reading and family violence prevention. Average grant amount $1,000 - $3,000.

WHO Foundation
Women Helping Others (WHO) offers support for grassroots charities serving women and children. The foundation’s priority is funding specific projects and programs addressing health and social service needs, and will consider funding projects of an original or pioneering nature within an existing organization.
Eligibility
Organizations must have 501 (c) (3) non-profit status and be qualified to receive deductible charitable contributions and have been incorporated for a minimum of three years prior to application. Preference is given to organizations with an operating budget of $3 million or less, those not dependent on government grants and those with greater organizational program costs than personnel costs.

Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation
The foundation’s purpose is to provide assistance to projects that offer services to disadvantaged individuals. It is dedicated to assisting the poor, primarily through operating and capital funds to direct service organizations. The foundation seeks to provide shelter, nutrition, health, and socialization in addition to enhancement of individuals’ ability to meet these specific needs. The foundation has a specific focus on the elderly and service to the Jewish community.
Eligibility
501 (c ) (3) non-profit status organizations that carry out their work principally to serve lower-income individuals in the communities in which they reside, and are committed to assisting vulnerable and at-risk populations.
Deadline
Rolling deadline; letters of inquiry accepted throughout the year; if accepted, a full grant proposal will be requested.

U.S. Soccer Foundation
Pre-Notification:
Anticipated Release Date August 1, 2008.
Summary:
To provide funding for programs or projects that develop and enhance the sport of soccer in the United States with cash and material resources with a focus on economically disadvantaged urban area. There are three program components and potentially the availability of planning grants. To get further information on each component, please go to website.
Eligibility:
Any entity with a soccer-specific program or project that benefits a non-profit purpose, including:
- Non-profit with 501(c )(3) or 501(c )(7) status
- Non-profit requesting funds to support a charitable, non-profit purpose
- Sovereign tribal nations
- Government agencies
- Other tax exempt organizations
- Entities such as churches, faith-based organizations, public and private schools, soccer organizations, and partnerships are also eligible.
Funding:
Maximum award - $100,000; match not required but would like to see institutional support, and matching funds receives competitive advantage in review process.
